At PG&E, we remain committed to climate change action—and to making collective progress towards a clean energy future in partnership with our customers and other stakeholders. We’ve set an ambitious goal to achieve a net-zero energy system in 2040 and are working to help California transition to a low-carbon and more climate-resilient economy.

2024 highlights

Clean and reliable energy

98% GHG-free electricity

Delivered 98% greenhouse-gas free electricity to customers who purchase their power directly from us.

4.6+ GW capacity

Managed contracts for more than 4.6 GW of battery energy storage to be deployed over the next several years and operated 183 MW of owned battery storage, strengthening California’s grid efficiency and reliability.

342 MW load reduction

Enabled up to 342 MW of load reduction through our demand response programs, helping to balance electricity supply and demand to support California’s evolving grid needs.

Enabling customer solutions

8.3 million metric tons

Helped customers avoid the emission of 8.3 million lifecycle metric tons of carbon dioxide through our energy efficiency programs.

1 in 8 EVs

Reached 700,000+ EVs in operation in our service area—about 1 in 8 of all EVs in the U.S—and installed more than 3,800 new EV charging ports.

1 in 7 solar rooftops

Brought the total number of rooftop solar customers connected to the grid to nearly 900,000—about 1 in 7 of all solar rooftops in the U.S.

3 bcf RNG volume

Increased renewable natural gas (RNG) interconnections, enabling over 3 billion cubic feet of RNG to flow through our system.

Innovation at PG&E

PG&E’s research and development strategy outlines an ambitious vision to leverage the power of AI to accelerate the transformation of our energy system.

We’ve outlined nearly 70 of the highest priority challenges in realizing an energy system that is affordable, decarbonized, safe, and resilient to the impacts of climate change for all Californians.

At our second Innovation Summit in November 2024, nearly 800 leaders, innovators, and utility partners gathered to share opportunities to collaborate on solutions that bridge to California’s clean energy future.

Areas of focus included:

  • AI as the catalyst for the utility of the future
  • Grid flexibility from distributed energy resources
  • Fast tracking the EV future
  • Scaling an equitable gas-to-electric transition
  • Future of electric system planning
  • Adaptation for extreme climate events
