Stephen Cairns is Vice President, Enterprise Financial Risk Management for Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

In his audit role, he is responsible for overseeing the company's insurance, internal audit, market and credit risk management, third party risk management, and finance compliance and controls functions. In his interim role, Cairns is also responsible for overseeing all risk management activities at PG&E, which includes both operational risks such as wildfires, nuclear, dams, natural gas and natural disasters as well as non-operational risks such as cybersecurity, pandemic and others. He has extensive experience in auditing key operational and support business processes.

Cairns joined PG&E in 2006 as Senior Director, Internal Auditing, and subsequently took on the leadership of Compliance and Ethics. He became Corporate Controller in 2008. In 2010, he began serving as Vice President, Internal Audit. He has also previously held the role of Chief Risk Officer.

Prior to joining PG&E, he worked for ScottishPower, where he was responsible for all aspects of internal audit in both the U.K. and U.S. Prior to ScottishPower, he worked for more than nine years for Ernst & Young in their external audit, information systems audit, internal audit and business risk consulting practices, principally focusing on the utility sector.

Cairns is a Chartered Accountant, and holds a degree in business and finance from Brighton University, UK.
