Vice President, Undergrounding and System Hardening | Pacific Gas and Electric Company
Matt Pender is PG&E's Vice President of Undergrounding and System Hardening.
Pender leads all aspects of PG&E's undergrounding and system hardening efforts to reduce wildfire risk. In this role, Pender and his team drive the near-term delivery and long-term strategies and innovations necessary to achieve our ambitious wildfire risk reduction, production and efficiency goals. That includes the undergrounding of 10,000 miles of distribution lines in High Fire-Threat Districts as well as hardening other circuits with more resilient poles and covered conductor.
Pender brings to this role diverse experience from over 18 years at PG&E starting as a Gas Engineer. He most recently was Senior Director and then Interim Lead of PG&E's 10,000-mile Undergrounding program. Previously, he has led teams from across the company including in Gas Operations, Electric Operations, Land Management, Vegetation Management and the Community Wildfire Safety Program.
Originally from Portland, Oregon, Pender holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Business Management from North Carolina State University. He obtained an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business as part of PG&E's MBA Fellowship program. He is a California-registered Professional Engineer.
