PG&E®

Focusing on Employee Wellness

PG&E employees walked nearly 40 miles in the annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in San Francisco, joining more than 2,800 volunteers that collectively raised more than $6 million for breast cancer research.

Healthy employees are critical to sustaining a healthy company. That is why PG&E expanded its employee wellness initiatives during 2009, and continues to focus on enhancing wellness programs and resources that encourage and support employees to make healthier choices.

Local wellness teams—complemented by wellness fairs and practical tips through newsletters, posters and guest speakers—are driving results throughout PG&E. We have also enhanced programs focused on weight loss, smoking cessation and stress management, and even made progress on serving healthier food at meetings and in vending machines.

Increasing employee fitness is also a major objective, as is actively engaging in health and wellness events within the community. In support of these goals, more than 1,200 employees participated in "Active for Life" in 2009, a 10-week program offered in collaboration with the American Cancer Society that encourages employees to be more active on a regular basis. In addition, many PG&E employees engaged in community fundraiser walks and runs for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. Looking ahead, we are also exploring options for fitness center discounts for our employees.
